We had an old tree growing through the roof of one of the garages, slowly expanding the area its girth required. In the spring, we found no new growth and it was evident that the tree had died. When cut down, it left a gaping hole in the roof.
With estimates running quite high, some members of the Portuguese community volunteered to tackle the repair of roof. What looked like a simple matter of covering the hole, turned into a roof replacement as dry rot was found in the beams. One wall had to be shored up and beams replaced before the plywood was cut and set in place and the roofing material nailed on.
Over a period of two days, new roofing was installed along with new garage doors. All for the cost of materials as labor was generously donated.
What a wonderful community!
