Confirmation

Confirmation

What is Confirmation?

Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist are the three Sacraments of Initiation.  In a real way, Confirmation completes Baptism. Those who are confirmed by the Gift of the Holy Spirit are more fully prepared for the fulfillment of their baptismal commissioning. Most ministries in the Church require the celebration of Confirmation.

To register for our 8th-12th grade Confirmation program, please visit our Youth Ministry & Confirmation page.

For adults, please find more information at our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults page.

How long is the confirmation program?

The Confirmation Program begins in January and ends in September and preparation for Confirmation is open to all who are at least 8th graders.
Catholic adults who have not been confirmed are invited and encouraged to approach the sacrament of Confirmation.

How often will the confirmation program meet?

The confirmation program will meet at least twice a month unless noted otherwise on Sundays in the afternoon. These meetings will include a social, spiritual, and catechetical aspect.

What will confirmation candidates be required to complete?

Confirmation candidates must participate in all sessions with allowance of no more than 3 absences and also attend an overnight retreat, rite of acceptance, rite of enrollment, and rehearsal.

Who is eligible for confirmation?

Those of whom are baptized and have had their first communion are eligible for confirmation. Our program includes 8th graders and high schoolers.

Who is eligible for the youth ministry program?

Anyone who is entering 7th grade and above may participate in the youth ministry program!

How do we get our young people to come to be excited for these gatherings and begin to get themselves involved?

At first, the ministry will be small and take time to develop; however, I am hopeful with the enthusiasm that we have had so far. The best way we can encourage young people to attend is to be very hospitable and invite them with our hearts. The parish needs to take a stake in this and be a welcoming community that lifts our young people up. Once they have their foot through the door, we must acknowledge that this is a big step for them and continue to invite them. The best advocate for the youth program will be the young people themselves inviting each other to attend.

Is Confirmation right for my child?

Do not be discouraged if your child is against receiving the sacrament. Sometimes, it is not the right time for them to be confirmed. The best we can do for young people is to encourage them to have a real and authentic relationship with Christ first. Therefore, we have in addition to our Confirmation program a youth ministry program that shows the love of Christ through relationships our young people build with each other.
